As of this writing we have enjoyed a very mild winter in southwest Florida. Many days with temperatures in the mid eighties accompanied with blue skies and light winds. We did experience a bout with red tide (a toxic algae bloom) in late November that made fishing difficult for a few weeks, but everything is back on track.
Up to this time we are mostly fishing with live pilchards as bait as water temperatures have remained in the seventies. When the temperature dips or we target sheepsheads or pompano shrimp have been our best bet.
With the warm weather and occasional cool down we are catching a good variety of fish.
Winter time brings large flocks of white pelicans from the north, these birds are huge and very photogenic. This is our best time of year to view a variety of birds.
Our new Canyon Bay 24h is in service and customers are really enjoying the extra fishing room and great ride. The Canyon Bay was custom built in Perry Florida.
