HERE COMES SUMMER

This is the month summer settles in, bringing hot, humid days, and afternoon thunderstorms. It’s a good month for fish both large and small.

 

It’s Prime Time for tarpon and shark fishing throughout our waters, including the Gulf Passes, along the beaches and inshore. June is a top month for hooking a tarpon, they are often most active in the mornings when the sun hits the horizon. A calm summer morning is a great time to get up early and watch the sun rise while chasing active tarpon off the beaches from Naples north to Gasparilla Island.

Look for the better redfish action over the highest stage of tide. Most fish will be hooked under the shade of mangrove shorelines or around oyster bars and Island points on cloudy days.

There are still some large trout around, but not as many as the previous months. Look for the largest fish staging around oyster bars and shoreline drop-offs.

 

Snook season remains closed as they move towards the Gulf Passes for their summer spawn. Handle them with care and get them back in the water quickly.

As we enter into summer it’s a great time to get out, the waters are far less crowded than previous months and fishing good. If you want to hook into that tarpon of a lifetime this is the month to get it done.
